Macro Weld Test Laboratory
APS have invested in a Metallographic Weld Test Laboratory to support the manufacture of the ISO Brackets for the 2014 Nissan Tilda and other safety critical welded assemblies.
Our welding engineers take the welded parts from the daily production batches as defined on the corresponding control documentation .
These parts are cut and polished before the final macro-etch which involves a nitric acid solution bath, applied in a ventilated cabinet. After the appropriate etching time the acid reveals the cross sectional view of the weld allowing the microscopic examination of the surface.
The main criteria's to look for are weld depth penetration, weld size, and critcally any unwanted inclusions that could weaken the structure.
