Meet The Team

Paul Smith

Paul Smith joined APS on a full-time basis in 1986. Prior to that he spent many school and college holidays working in the various departments of the business, and his grounding proved invaluable to Paul's development within the company.

Initially employed as P.A. to his father Phil Smith, he soon became involved in logistics, production, purchasing, customers and supplier liaison and personnel management.

Now in his 29th year at APS, Paul is very proud to hold the M.D. mantle and aims to preside over a period of future growth and further success.

David Smith

David Smith has been in the metal forming industry for 60 years. Serving his apprenticeship at the B.S.A Motorcycle division and finishing on the press tool design section.

From the 1960's he has worked in the automtive supply industry in various manegerial roles before joining APS in 1987.

He enjoys the challenges that cold metal forming can create and solving them give him enormous pleasure. 

Andrew Smith

Andrew began full time employment with APS in 1983 immediately upon leaving school, prior to which he had spent numerous school holidays and Saturday mornings working in different areas of the business.

After serving a five year Apprenticeship in the Toolroom and many more years after enhancing his knowledge, Andrew progressed through the ranks to become Toolroom Manager and eventually Works Manager.

In 1999 Andrew was appointed Works Director and this year he will be celebrating his 32nd year of service with the company.   

Steve Tinley

Steve joined the business in May 2014 as Commercial Manager, with the primary responsibility for steel procurement.

Steve completed an MBA back in 1996 whilst employed by British Steel. He then formed his own business supplying raw material to both service centres and end users alike, APS being one of his prestigious clients.

Since arriving at their Hockley headquarters he has presided over numerous cost base initiatives, which led to his elevation to a board position in January 2017.

He has recently been instrumental in creating a unique partnership with the trading arm of the US steel giant Nucor, providing APS with a diverse role in the steel supply chain.
